Job Setup & Interview Types
Define the role, required skills, and seniority level. Choose an interview type (technical, behavioral, or mixed), configure duration, and let Sara generate balanced questions.
Creating a Job
Every interview starts with a job definition. Sara uses the job details you provide to generate relevant questions, set difficulty levels, and score candidates against role-specific criteria.
The quality of your job definition directly affects interview quality. Detailed descriptions with specific technologies, team context, and day-to-day responsibilities produce sharply targeted interviews. Vague descriptions produce generic questions.

Interview Types
Sara supports three interview types. Choose the one that fits the role. You can change the type after creating the job without losing your question set. Not sure which to pick? Mixed is the most common choice — it covers both technical depth and soft skills in a single interview.
| Type | Focus | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Technical | Coding, architecture, domain knowledge | Engineering, IT, data science roles |
| Behavioral | Soft skills, past experiences, culture fit | All roles, especially leadership and management |
| Mixed | Balanced technical and behavioral questions | Most common choice for general hiring |
Interview Duration
Each interview lasts 20-30 minutes. Sara adjusts the duration based on the number and type of questions. Technical interviews with code-related questions tend toward 30 minutes. Behavioral interviews with concise scenario prompts tend toward 20 minutes. You control the final duration by adding or removing questions.
Note
Each completed interview costs 10 credits regardless of duration — a 20-minute behavioral screen costs the same as a 30-minute deep technical dive. On the Free plan (10 credits), you get 1 interview. On Business ($50/mo, 100 credits), you get 10 interviews — enough to screen a full candidate pipeline for most roles.
Question Generation
Sara reads your job description, required skills, and seniority level, then generates a structured question set. She balances difficulty across three tiers: roughly 50% easy (warm-up and fundamentals), 30% medium (real-world application), and 20% hard (deep expertise and stretch questions).
This balance ensures candidates of all levels can demonstrate their strengths while top performers stand out. Sara also adapts follow-up questions in real-time based on candidate responses — if someone gives a strong answer, she probes deeper.
Pro Tip
Preview the generated questions before inviting candidates. Sara shows you the full question set after saving a job — review it, swap out any questions that do not fit, and add your own "must-ask" questions. This takes 5 minutes and dramatically improves interview quality.
Question Categories
Sara draws questions from five categories. Each question includes the question text, difficulty level, evaluation criteria, expected answer points, and follow-up probes for deeper exploration.
| Category | What It Covers |
|---|---|
| Technical | Coding, system design, domain knowledge |
| Behavioral | Teamwork, conflict resolution, leadership |
| Problem-Solving | Analytical thinking, approach to challenges |
| Communication | Clarity, structure, articulation |
| Role-Specific | Questions derived directly from your job requirements |
Custom Questions
You can edit, reorder, or delete any generated question. You can also add your own custom questions at any position in the interview. Mark specific questions as "qualifying" to give them extra weight in scoring. Sara preserves your customizations even if you change the interview type later.
