Creating a Job

Every interview starts with a job definition. Sara uses the job details you provide to generate relevant questions, set difficulty levels, and score candidates against role-specific criteria.

The quality of your job definition directly affects interview quality. Detailed descriptions with specific technologies, team context, and day-to-day responsibilities produce sharply targeted interviews. Vague descriptions produce generic questions.

  1. 1

    Go to Hiring > Jobs

Open the Dashboard and navigate to the Hiring section. Click "Jobs" in the sidebar.

  2. 2

    Click Create Job

Click "Create Job" to start from scratch, or "Import from ATS" to pull an existing role from Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, or another connected ATS.

  3. 3

    Fill in the job details

Enter the job title, location, full description, responsibilities, required skills, nice-to-have skills, seniority level, employment type, and salary range. The more detail you provide, the more targeted Sara's questions become.

  4. 4

    Save and preview

Click Save. Sara immediately shows a preview of the generated interview structure. Review the question set before inviting candidates.

Interview Types

Sara supports three interview types. Choose the one that fits the role. You can change the type after creating the job without losing your question set. Not sure which to pick? Mixed is the most common choice — it covers both technical depth and soft skills in a single interview.

TypeFocusBest For
TechnicalCoding, architecture, domain knowledgeEngineering, IT, data science roles
BehavioralSoft skills, past experiences, culture fitAll roles, especially leadership and management
MixedBalanced technical and behavioral questionsMost common choice for general hiring

Interview Duration

Each interview lasts 20-30 minutes. Sara adjusts the duration based on the number and type of questions. Technical interviews with code-related questions tend toward 30 minutes. Behavioral interviews with concise scenario prompts tend toward 20 minutes. You control the final duration by adding or removing questions.

Note

Each completed interview costs 10 credits regardless of duration — a 20-minute behavioral screen costs the same as a 30-minute deep technical dive. On the Free plan (10 credits), you get 1 interview. On Business ($50/mo, 100 credits), you get 10 interviews — enough to screen a full candidate pipeline for most roles.

Question Generation

Sara reads your job description, required skills, and seniority level, then generates a structured question set. She balances difficulty across three tiers: roughly 50% easy (warm-up and fundamentals), 30% medium (real-world application), and 20% hard (deep expertise and stretch questions).

This balance ensures candidates of all levels can demonstrate their strengths while top performers stand out. Sara also adapts follow-up questions in real-time based on candidate responses — if someone gives a strong answer, she probes deeper.

Pro Tip

Preview the generated questions before inviting candidates. Sara shows you the full question set after saving a job — review it, swap out any questions that do not fit, and add your own "must-ask" questions. This takes 5 minutes and dramatically improves interview quality.

Question Categories

Sara draws questions from five categories. Each question includes the question text, difficulty level, evaluation criteria, expected answer points, and follow-up probes for deeper exploration.

CategoryWhat It Covers
TechnicalCoding, system design, domain knowledge
BehavioralTeamwork, conflict resolution, leadership
Problem-SolvingAnalytical thinking, approach to challenges
CommunicationClarity, structure, articulation
Role-SpecificQuestions derived directly from your job requirements

Custom Questions

You can edit, reorder, or delete any generated question. You can also add your own custom questions at any position in the interview. Mark specific questions as "qualifying" to give them extra weight in scoring. Sara preserves your customizations even if you change the interview type later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reuse a job setup for multiple hiring rounds?
Yes. Save any job as a template. When you create a new job, select "Use Template" and Sara loads the same description, skills, and question set. Subsequent jobs using templates take about 10 minutes to set up instead of 20.
How many questions does Sara generate per interview?
Sara typically generates 8-15 questions depending on the interview type and seniority level. Technical interviews for senior roles lean toward 15 questions. Behavioral interviews for junior roles lean toward 8. You can add or remove questions to adjust the count.
Does Sara ask follow-up questions during the interview?
Yes. Sara listens to each answer and asks relevant follow-up probes when she detects the candidate can go deeper. This creates a natural conversation flow rather than a rigid list of questions.
